MEDIA PREZI

Social groups

The way my magazine represented a particular social group was by the content it included. An example of this would be things such as the Artist who were featured in my magazine and also the artist whose name may have come up. The reason this represented a specific social group is because Grime is not really an internationally recognised Genre of music, so by featuring underground Grime artist in my magazine it is almost as if they get to talk out on behalf of Grime fans and get their views heard by many.

Improvement with technology

From doing this task I have learnt a lot of skills that will be useful in the future and that will help improve my understanding of technology. One of the things I learnt was how to take quality pictures. I know this might sound like an easy task but there is a lot more to it then you think and is actually a skill you can learn threw practise. Another bit of technology I have learnt about through this task was how to use Photoshop software. This is a thing I am proud of as I can now use the software properly and reckon in the future this could be used to create other things. Overall I am happy with myself learning about these things because they are useful skills to have even outside of media and could help me in my later life.

The link between uk grime and American hip-hop

When i was looking at grime videos I also found  out that Grime artist do alot of covers of American Hip-hop tracks, so I automatically knew there was a strong link between Grime and Hip-hop music. I also saw that this was very popular amongst the underground Grime culture.

RESEARCH 2

After looking at some examples of magazines I still didn’t feel as if I knew enough about grime to create a magazine on it so I expanded my research and went on YouTube. The reason I done this was so I could get an understanding of Grime as a genre and understand the age groups that listen to this type of music. After I looked through a couple of Grime videos it became obvious to me that it was a urban/street Uk thing and that it was mostly listen to by youth. Because of these findings I decided I was going to give my magazine a street theme and aim it at teenagershttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc7W8Q-g9Lg&safe=active. << This is one of the examples i came across threw this process

RESEARCH 1

For my media coursework i was set the task of creating a brief magazine of any music genre of my choice. During this process I had to do before hand research and get an idea of what I waas actually getting my self into. Before I even thought of jumping straight on to Photoshop I looked on Google to see examples of well known Grime magazines and during this procedure I came across Flavour. Flavour is a great example of the type of magazine I would be doing as it is a magazine for Uk Grime and also has the same type of Codes and Conventions I would like to have included in mine.

contents

My contents page was also hard to create as I didn’t think my flat pan idea was a good layout to use. To overcome this problem I then went on to Google to see examples and found one that I liked. The reason I liked this one over my flat plan design is because it looked more professional and had the same codes and conventions you would expect to see in a grime magazine. Another issue I had to overcome while doing my contents page was making it match with my front cover in terms of colour scheme and fonts. To do this I constantly looked at my front cover while creating my contents page and copied over the same fonts from my front cover.

from my prelim to now

Since my preliminary task I have actually learnt a lot things such as how to use Photoshop, how to layout a magazine properly, how to take good focused pictures and many others. I am happy with the fact that I have come such a long way since my previous task but still feel as if there is a lot more I can still learn in terms of media. I also feel as if the end product of my magazine cover beats my preliminary front cover hands down and that in terms of codes and conventions it has improved drastically. The main thing where I feel I have progressed on since the preliminary task was my time keeping, as with my preliminary task I didn’t finish it where as this task we had more to do in the similar times but I still was able to do it to the best of my ability. Overall you can see in my work where I have improved since the preliminary task and think that with a bit more practise there isn’t any reason why I can’t still expand my media skills, and go even further then the level I am at now.

Double page spread

My double page spread was one of my strongest parts of my magazine in my opinion. The reason I say this is because it matched all the codes and conventions of a grime magazine and the layout was exactly as I wanted it. Out of the three parts of my magazine I actually found this part the easiest as I already knew the kind of look I was going for so I didn’t really need to do before hand research for it. During this process there was one problem I came across and this was the quantity of text I had to include. The reason this was an issue was because I didn’t judge how much text I would actually need so I ended up not having enough, then I had to make up most of it at the end. If I was to this double page spread again I would make sure I include more text and also maybe add one more picture to it.

front cover

The first thing I done in this task was take pictures I needed for my magazine. As it was a grime magazine I had to get specific pictures that suited the genre. To accomplish this I made my artist wear dark colours and street clothing which is highly linked to the grime genre. After my artist had the appropriate attire I got a good quality camera and started taking pictures of my artist against a plain white wall as this would be easiest to cut out using Photoshop.  After I got the significant amount of photos I needed for my front cover of my magazine I started going through them and selected the best ones. Once this was done I started working around with fonts. After I found a suitable font I could use on my front cover I then started to include other text and found that my magazine was coming along well as there was an obvious cohesion with the color scheme and the style of font. This was a good sign as it suggested that I was meeting the right codes and conventions of other grime magazines. As soon as all this was complete I then had to use one of the images I had taken with my camera and fit it in with my text. During this process there were a lot of problems as I had to choose from about 5 possible other images, eventually with help from a member of staff and other pupils in my class we all came to an agreement what image to use and this was the outcome.

ARD ADZ SHO SHALLOW POLITICAL PEAK - 90'S BABY [Produced By @SLProducti...

SHOT LIST 1 AND 2

MY DOUBLE PAGE AND FRONT COVER FLAT PLAN

To get an idea about how grime magazines were laid out I then started reconstructing flat plans to give me a brief idea how I was going to set out my grime magazine, and get an idea about colour schemes I could use. This helped me a lot as it gave me the ideas I needed to star my magazine and made me  realise how I was going to do this task. Also by drawing flat plans of the double page spread, front cover and contents page it made it easier to position things on my magazine which meant it was actually useful. overal I am happy with my flat plans because they made the task easier and made me understand how much easier the task could be by drawing these.

MY SURVEY

I carried out the following survey to see what age group mostly listened to grime music and if there was a grime magazine would they read it. The finale bit of beforehand research I carried out was surveys. This was for me to get the idea of which title I should use and the colour schemes that would suit grime the most. I also carried out this research to see if people actually knew about the Grime genre and if they felt as if Grime was just seen as a UK version of Hip-Hop.

After i had carried out this survey i found out that the majority of people i asked didnt no what grime was or they just thought that grime was a uk version of hip-hop. I also found out that most people thought that i should use dark colours as it represents grime better then light ones. overall the use of a survey helped me alot as it made me understand what exactly my target audience wanted to see and for me to check if people would understand what exactly my magazine was. If I had to carry out another survey I will do one that asked my audience where would they want to see my magazine distributed, and about the prices they would pay for such a magazine.

WHY "IGRIME"

The name of my magazine is called I Grime; it is called this for many reasons and has a lot of things to the name. One of the reasons I picked this name is because it makes the magazine seem personal too all grime fans as it says I Grime. The I make it out as it is just for you and that you are the cause of the production of the magazine. The name also is very catchy and is also very short and snappy. Another name I was thinking of was you grime but I Grime just had a better ring to it and there are also more images I can link with the letter I then you.

READER PROFILE

Ryan is a 16 year old boy who lives in Brixton in south London. He goes to a local secondary school near his home and is currently doing his GCSE. Ryan is interested in music and how it is distributed so he isn’t sure if he should take media at A level. In his spare time Ryan likes to play football with his friends and go to a lot of parties. The type of music Ryan is commonly exposed to is UK Grime, R&B, Hip-Hop, Funky house and Bashment, these are all popular genres in the UK urban scene and in the  area Ryan lives in the majority of people listen to these types of music. Some of Ryan’s favorite artist is UK Grime artist Sneakbo and American Hip-Hop artist Drake. Ryan says that he is inspired by the Grime artist Sneakbo as he came from the same estate he lives on and by posting music videos on Youtube he has now been noticed and has songs now on Itunes, choice fm radio station and TV.

The reason my magazine would have a reader of this background is because the person would have to understand the real UK grime scene and would have to be able to relate to the hard life and background of the artist. Another reason why this would be my typical reader is because they would also listen to genres such as Hip-Hop and understand the link between the UK grime scene and the international World known Hip-Hop scene. The final reason why that would be my typical reader is because the main age group who listens to grime is between 14-24 and a 16 year old would be a typical interested in that genre

SEMIOTICS AND THE EFFECT IT GIVES

Semiotics is when we get the idea of something through the image of something  else, for example  the male and female signs on the bathroom doors tell us  if its male or female toilets.  The image on this cover is of a artist called scorcher. T his picture shows us that  the artist is dressed smart and is slanting his head to the side in a cocky way which illustrates  to us he is trying to look sexy.  The artist is also got a chequered shirt the same colour as the main writing, this  brings are eye straight to the text the same colour which also says the sex issue.
From the semiotics on this page  you can tell that the magazine is to do with sex. The colours used on the magazines cover lines also show which articles are more important than others; the main article is about Scorcher and this is written in white, whereas some of the other cover lines are written in black and in smaller fonts.

Xxl magazine contents page always has the celebrity angle of gaze straight at us. The reason for this is because it makes the celebrity seem powerful and stand out more. I also noticed that Xxl slant their text on some of the magazines when they use a long shot of their celebrity. Another thing that I had actually noticed about Xxl contents page was that the main articles was always in bold text to make it stand out more. The last thing that I also noticed when I de-constructed these magazines was that Xxl always gave a dark colour scheme to match the front cover.

Xxl magazine always has a lot of  similarities in its front covers. The first thing I had noticed on the different type of magazine covers Xxl had was that they always kept  the title on the top left of the magazine, as almost as if this is there trademark position. Another thing that I had noticed when I de-constructed these two front covers was that the males was always looking straight at you where as the females may be looking to the side or in an other direction. Xxl magazine also tends to keep the artist who is on the front of the magazine have there name on the bottom of the magazine. This has been done on all the issues I have seen and is also another trademark of the magazine. The finale thing I would like to talk about is the colour theme the magazine normally has.It normally contains red, white and black  but on some covers may have blue as the background colour.

The great star tinie tempa was face of a great world wide known magazine. If this is not a achievement for the star I dont no what is.

MISSED YOU - Nathan Mercado (live keys & vocal demo)

The Nathan Mercado task was a very intresting one. The task was to get the biggest fan base to turn up to Nathans gig at norbury manor, we was split up into 4 different groups and each of us had are own strategy to get the most people to turn up. The way we judged this was each person had there own colour ticket and the group with the most tickets at the end one.

The different types of advertising was things such as posters and trailers. The advertising got very competitive between groups but overall was a good laught http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsP863e4Whc&feature=plcp&context=C3475b5fUDOEgsToPDskKwTCnDp2YicrstkDWHQQDF
